WebGPU is a new standard for graphics processing that is designed to run on the device itself. This means that you can create powerful and user-friendly AI applications that run right in your browser.

The demand for speed and innovation is everywhere. However, that enthusiasm sometimes creates conflict when it butts up against security, resiliency and reliability concerns. In some cases, the dogged hunt to increase velocity can introduce new challenges and risks (e.g., skipped process gates, insufficient testing…). On the other hand, Formula 1 is one of the fastest and safest motorsports in the world, where the need for speed does not compromise safety of the drivers. In this talk, we are going to discuss different principles followed in Formula 1 and what lessons we can learn from and adopt in the way we design, architect, ship and secure our systems. Machine Learning Tools for Java Developers - VisRec, ChatGPT, etc.

"One of the most interesting aspects of the world is that it can be considered to be made up of patterns" - Norbert Wiener (1940s). We are entering a new and long-tail phase of software development with Machine Learning (ML). ML, a subset of AI, is the ability of a machine to produce accurate results for a particular problem without any explicit traditional programming. These predictive and generative results are derived from recognizing patterns in large data sets.

With the new generation of "generative AI/ML" tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, Bard/PaLM, Stable Diffusion, et al., this megatrend affects our applications, software tools, data structures, systems architecture, new hardware approaches, business processes, organizational interactions, enterprise strategies, government behavior, geopolitical strengths, ethics, data privacy, etc. In essence, ML is an inflection point for computing, enterprises, countries, humanity, and civilization.

But only a few of us will be data scientists. And not everyone needs to learn Python. There are ~10M Java developers on the planet. They need Java-friendly tools for this technology. So we'll look at JSR #381 (standard API for Visual Recognition for Java), dive into the ChatGPT API, and show some demos. And we'll also discuss what all this means for Java (and all developers) in the near future.

Cashier-free shops like Amazon Go, Morrison, Tesco, or Zappka improve customer experience and reduce running costs and business downtime to zero by automatizing checkout and providing 24/7 shopping time. Shopping is simplified to entering the store, taking what you want from shelves, and walking out. The checkout is done automatically based on cameras and AI-Powered algorithms, that track your every move and monitor what you took out with you. Those shops are already live, but with limited functionality or in the late stage of the experimental phase. In my presentation, I will discuss the currently used solutions and technology behind cashier-less stores. I will present a case study and algorithms overview used to track and charge customers. I will also discuss the challenges of cashier-less stores and how to handle them.

dbt is currently the go-to tool for data transformation in cloud datawarehousing. But dbt still has problems, the combination of Jinja and SQL is messy, it promotes way too much full scanning of tables in production that drives warehouse costs, and it's kind of stupid, in reality it's a glorified Jinja parser.

Can SQLMesh save our transformations and give back order, unit tests and better handling of incremental loads and environments? I will dive into the technology behind SQLMesh, where it differs from dbt and why I think it's worth looking at for data transformation in the cloud.

Cashier-free shops like Amazon Go, Morrison, Tesco, or Zappka improve customer experience and reduce running costs and business downtime to zero by automatizing checkout and providing 24/7 shopping time. Shopping is simplified to entering the store, taking what you want from shelves, and walking out. The checkout is done automatically based on cameras and AI-Powered algorithms, that track your every move and monitor what you took out with you. Those shops are already live, but with limited functionality or in the late stage of the experimental phase. In my presentation, I will discuss the currently used solutions and technology behind cashier-less stores. I will present a case study and algorithms overview used to track and charge customers. Machine Learning Tools for Java Developers - VisRec, ChatGPT, etc.

"One of the most interesting aspects of the world is that it can be considered to be made up of patterns" - Norbert Wiener (1940s). We are entering a new and long-tail phase of software development with Machine Learning (ML). ML, a subset of AI, is the ability of a machine to produce accurate results for a particular problem without any explicit traditional programming. These predictive and generative results are derived from recognizing patterns in large data sets.

With the new generation of "generative AI/ML" tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, Bard/PaLM, Stable Diffusion, et al., this megatrend affects our applications, software tools, data structures, systems architecture, new hardware approaches, business processes, organizational interactions, enterprise strategies, government behavior, geopolitical strengths, ethics, data privacy, etc. In essence, ML is an inflection point for computing, enterprises, countries, humanity, and civilization.

But only a few of us will be data scientists. And not everyone needs to learn Python. There are ~10M Java developers on the planet. They need Java-friendly tools for this technology. Abstract:

Cashier-free shops like Amazon Go, Morrison, Tesco, or Zappka improve customer experience and reduce running costs and business downtime to zero by automatizing checkout and providing 24/7 shopping time. Shopping is simplified to entering the store, taking what you want from shelves, and walking out. The checkout is done automatically based on cameras and AI-Powered algorithms, that track your every move and monitor what you took out with you. Those shops are already live, but with limited functionality or in the late stage of the experimental phase. In my presentation, I will discuss the currently used solutions and technology behind cashier-less stores. I will present a case study and algorithms overview used to track and charge customers. I will also discuss the challenges of cashier-less stores and how to handle them.

I want to open the eyes of the audience to the concept of Knowledge Graphs. This is a relatively new but exciting area that is rapidly growing.

Gartner predicts by the year 2025 up to 80 % of organizations looking to integrate and automate data will depend on this technology.

In this talk I will explain what Knowledge Graphs is, how it is different from relational databases and its many use cases.
